Therapy Cost and Insurance
at The And Way Therapy
Paying for therapy should not require a second job.
We take insurance because specialty OCD and trauma care ought to be reachable for the people who need it. If you are wondering how much therapy will cost, here is how the money side works, in plain language.
How insurance works
at The And Way Therapy
We are in-network with several major plans. Depending on your benefits, you may pay a copay or coinsurance instead of our full fee once you meet any applicable deductible.
Many of our clinicians accept Aetna, Cigna (Evernorth), United, Optum, Oxford, Oscar, ComPsych, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.
Networks can differ by therapist and by plan.
If you are looking for Cigna therapists, checking your Aetna therapy coverage, or searching for a BCBS therapist in Texas, we can help you check which clinicians accept your specific plan.
When you contact us, we review your benefits and match you with a therapist based on your specialty, insurance, language, and schedule.
Before your first session, you will see what you are expected to pay. Insurance clients get an estimated cost based on their benefits.
Self-pay clients get a Good Faith Estimate.
How much is therapy with insurance?
Your therapy cost depends on your plan, your deductible and the therapist you see.
Many plans work in two phases. In the first phase you pay the full contracted rate for each session until you meet your deductible.
In the second phase you pay a copay or coinsurance. Some plans cover sessions with a copay before you meet your deductible.
On calendar-year plans the deductible resets on January 1, so the first months of the year may cost the most.
Self-pay fees and therapist rates
Each therapist sets their own rate.
Self-pay fees run $125 to $205 for a 50-minute session, depending on the therapist’s experience.
Some therapists hold reduced-fee slots.
If you are looking for a sliding fee scale, ask what reduced-fee options are open when you reach out.
Weekly sessions are not required.
We will talk through a frequency that fits your budget and your goals.
We accept all major credit cards, including HSA and FSA cards, kept on file for autopay.
If we are not in network with your plan
You may still get a portion of the cost back. Many plans reimburse a percentage of therapy fees through out-of-network benefits.
We partner with Mentaya, a HIPAA-compliant platform that checks your eligibility and files claims for you.
In some situations, out-of-network can even cost less than in-network, depending on your deductibles and the time of year.
Our out-of-network therapy reimbursement page has the full breakdown.
Couples therapy and insurance
Couples therapy at The And Way is self-pay.
Insurance generally pays for treatment of a covered diagnosis for one person.
Couples therapy focuses on the relationship.
We explain how that works on our couples therapy and insurance page.
Questions to ask your insurance company
Call the number on your insurance card and say you want to check outpatient mental health benefits. Then ask:
Do I have outpatient mental health coverage?
What is my deductible, and how much of it have I met?
What is my copay or coinsurance for CPT codes 90791, 90834, and 90837?
Is there a limit on the number of sessions per year?
Do I have out-of-network benefits, and is that deductible different?
Do I need a referral from my primary care doctor?
Write down the representative’s name and a reference number in case you need to follow up.
